KW Cares

In February 2024, Florida agent and mom of two, Amanda A., went to the emergency room with severe pain in her abdomen. She swiftly found herself admitted to the hospital. After a full battery of tests, she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune disease, and sent home with a pile of prescriptions.

Just like that, her whole life changed.

The “New Normal”

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in your digestive tract. While medications can help manage it, there is no cure for UC and every person is affected differently. Finding the right balance of medication and dietary changes can take years. And symptoms can be debilitating.

Though Amanda was put on a regimen of medications, she was still unable to get out of bed. Being a parent became incredibly difficult—and being a real estate agent became impossible. Amanda’s income plummeted. At the same time, in addition to general living expenses, she had extensive medical bills.

“My family and I have seen through this process how important support is in a time of need. My Market Center was amazing, providing my family food when I was unable to get out of bed to cook for them or even go to the store. KW Cares stepped in immediately, supporting myself and my family.” —Amanda

This is a disease Amanda will have to manage for the rest of her life. She and her family are doing everything they can to combat the symptoms of UC, but finding the right balance has taken time and has been financially difficult on the family.

How You Help through KW Cares

KW Cares provided funds to help Amanda pay for living expenses so she can take care of herself and her family while learning to manage her UC. She’s working diligently to adjust her daily habits to accommodate this “new normal” so she can get back to work.

“Thank you so much to KW Cares for being such a huge part of making sure myself and my family were taken care of in such a desperate time of need in my life. I am still on my journey to remission and I honestly don’t know what I would have done without them.” —Amanda
