Here at KW Cares, one of the best parts of what we do is getting to call someone to tell them their grant has been approved. We know that there are no “small” disasters when they happen to you—and we know that sometimes, hope comes in the form of financial aid.
“I don’t think anyone ever thinks they’re going to need help from KW Cares [but] life happens. KW Cares understands, and that’s how it was designed.”—Elisa Peña-Kim
Below, three of our grant recipients share their stories of what it was like to get the call saying their request had been approved.
Elisa: Austin, TX
Elisa works in video production at Keller Williams. One night, she got a call asking her and her siblings to come to the local hospital immediately.
“When we got to the hospital, we learned that my parents had been in a car accident. . . . By the end of that weekend, we had lost them both. I didn’t realize what the cost of a funeral was, let alone two. We were sitting at the table with the funeral director when we got the call that KW Cares was stepping in.” —Elisa Peña-Kim
Rachel: Green Bay, WI
When you live up north, you don’t expect to ever have your house flood, but things happen. Rachel had to be evacuated from her home; she floated down the street in a life raft. The water damage in her home was extensive.
“When I got the call from KW Cares it didn’t just give me hope. It was hope. It was everything I had been praying for.” —Rachel Peterson
Nikki: Orland Park, IL
Nikki began her cancer journey in 2022 when she was diagnosed with stage 1B breast cancer at only 44 years old. We know how hard it can be to keep a real estate career going while you’re fighting for your life.
“I want to thank everyone who gives to KW Cares, because you never know who you’re going to help.” —Nikki Kimsey
