KW Cares

In September 2023, the Ten Mile River in Massachusetts breached its banks. Police were called out to rescue people trapped in their vehicles as more than 6.5” of rain fell.

Homeowners were asked to shelter in place. Carina’s family could do nothing but listen to the pounding rain and watch as water began to gush into their home.

After the Rain

Despite a dozen homes being flooded, the event was not officially declared a disaster, so support from relief organizations wasn’t available. Their insurance company didn’t cover flood damage. So Carina and her family faced costly repairs and the loss of essential practical items ranging from clothing and shoes to irreplaceable ones like photos and mementos.

“I was devastated. To this day, the rain still traumatizes us. I reached out to every known organization for help and nobody reached back. Our insurance was useless. I was completely lost. Fortunately, a KW colleague mentioned KW Cares to me. I didn’t know anything about it, I’m still a newer agent, but I filled out an application anyway thinking ‘why not?’” —Carina

KW Cares Steps In

Fortunately, KW Cares doesn’t require an official disaster declaration to provide help to our KW Family members in times of need.

“I was in disbelief when someone responded. I finally felt a sense of relief. My family and I were finally able to take steps to get our home back. One day, it would be my honor to help families the way KW Cares has helped mine. I am deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity of my KW Family.” —Carina
