We’re blessed to hear the stories of KW Family members who have been touched by our grant program. One such family is Jenn Hood and her daughter, Hannah, who was diagnosed with cancer at only 16. Below is their story, in Jenn’s own words.
I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible generosity you have shown my family. Your kindness has been a source of hope during one of the most challenging periods in our lives, and we are deeply touched by your compassion.
Two years ago, our world was turned upside down when my daughter Hannah, who was just 16 at the time, underwent surgery to remove a cyst from her left ovary. It was then that we learned the cyst was a 15cm, 6-pound tumor diagnosed as Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumour, a rare form of ovarian cancer.
Facing the Journey Ahead
The news of Hannah’s cancer was a heavy blow to us as parents. We were overwhelmed with fear and concern for her future. The prospect of four rounds of chemotherapy at a children’s hospital more than 484 kilometers away from home only added to our distress.
As we faced this difficult journey, we quickly realized the immense financial burden it placed on our family. The financial strain was a challenge we hadn’t anticipated, and it seemed overwhelming at times. Your generous gift arrived at a crucial moment, easing some of the financial pressure and providing much-needed relief.
Your selfless act of kindness has had a profound impact on us, and we are deeply grateful for the support you have provided. Your compassion has made a lasting difference in our lives.
I am delighted to share that Hannah graduated from high school with her friends this past June and, even more wonderfully, was declared one-year cancer-free!
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your extraordinary generosity and for making a meaningful difference in our lives.
With sincere appreciation,
Jenn Hood
