Life was fairly typical for Meghan and Levi Lane, who have been a husband–wife team in the Columbia-Northeast Market Center since 2019. They had three kids and one on the way, plus church and their real estate business kept them busy.
When Life Takes a Turn
On December 1, 2022, their lives changed drastically. Levi went to the ER for back pain and unusual sweating. After scans, he was diagnosed with stage 3C testicular cancer. He had an 8-cm tumor in his chest, and cancer was in his brain as well.
“I remember [Levi] called me and said ‘They found something.’ I was very fearful. . . . What would it be like to be a single mom, raising four kids? How are we going to financially do this if he’s not able to work or isn’t here?” —Meghan Lane
Levi had been primarily running their real estate business until he had to put his life on hold to start aggressive treatment. His cancer required extensive chemo and radiation treatments over 3 months, which rendered him unable to work as he recovered. At the same time, Meghan was unable to work as she took over caring for him and their three young children.
Meghan did everything in her power to keep the family afloat in all areas of their lives. She was not only caring for their children, their home, and their real estate business, but she also had to take on the role of full-time caregiver—while pregnant.
After completing chemo, Levi was referred to a specialist in Charleston when his doctors discovered some “hot spots” on his lymph nodes. He underwent a bronchoscopy, and the Lane family finally received some good news.

What Comes Next
While this excellent news came just in time to welcome their baby boy into the world, they do have to plan for additional surgical procedures soon to remove excess tissue in Levi’s chest. Levi is beginning to regain his strength, allowing him to return to his real estate business.
Everyone is still getting their balance. Though they’re not completely back to their previous day-to-day routine and still have quite a bit of financial strain, the Lanes are hopeful and grateful for all of the support they have received during this challenging time.
How You Help through KW Cares
Today, Levi is doing well, and they’re settling into being a family of six. KW Cares was able to provide funds to help the Lane family with living expenses while they were both unable to work and to give them time to heal.
“Our team leader was the one who encouraged us to apply for this grant. I did a lot of it from the chemo room. . . . When we received the grant, we were just blown away at the generosity of KW Cares. They really do care.” —Meghan Lane
